Bhandara district is located in North-East of Maharashtra. On 1st May 1999, the district was divided from its east – west part and thus Gondia and Bhandara came into existence. Bhandara is an elongated district stretched towards northern and southern direction. Lakhandur is located at the southern limit of the district. The main occupation of the people of this region is agriculture but during the rainy season, the rivers like Vainganga and Chulbandh become flooded and each year Lakhandur and neighbouring area become isolated from other region. This remote, rural, socially and economically disadvantaged and Naxalite-affected taluka place had no facility of higher education till 1993.
After passing H.S.C. it was not possible for the poor and underprivileged students to go to the urban district for higher education. “Shree Kisanrao Khobragade Education Society” realized the urgent need to provide higher education to fill the vacuum and serve the educational interest of the people of the area and established “Yashwantrao Chawhan College of Arts, Commerce & Science” in 1993. The college is affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. The Management Committee consists of socially renowned academic peers.
